Dear Friends,
Hope this
finds everyone happy ,healthy, and excited for 2010. Our year at
GPO started in the spring with our first Wyoming spring Turkey
hunt, Wyoming resident Willy Gardner was our first and only
client. Willy scored on the first morning of his hunt by
harvesting a beautiful Tom with a 12 inch beard. This is a great
hunt with lots of birds on our ranches, if anyone is interested
these are 3-day hunts for $1200.00. You do have to draw this tag
with that deadline being 1/31/2010, give me a call and I can help
you with this.
After a summer
of hard scouting and rounding up some more private ground we were
ready to get hunting. September 1st we started our
Archery Mule Deer and Antelope hunts with Paul Salzwedel of WI and
Steve Doudt of NY with both taking great Mulies and Paul
harvesting his Antelope as well, Pauls Mulie scoring 183. and
Steves hitting the 167 mark.
Next we where
off to Unit 7 for Archery Elk hunts with Rick Dicks of WA, Chris
Prosise of TX, and Larry Grindle of OH all taking nice 6x6 bulls
scoring over that 300 inch mark. Our second archery hunt was also
successful seeing lots of bulls and hunting hard Rudy Milani of PA
scoring on a great 340 class bull at the range of 3 feet, now that
was fun.
Next it was on
to our rifle Mulie hunts in Region T some last minute scheduling
problems made our first hunt larger than we like to have but the
hard work by everyone payed off. With Tom and Carol McCord of WA,
Bill Ciccone of CO, David Reimer of WI all taking great Bucks, Oct
3rd was a day to remember with 3 Bucks taken that day
scoring over that 180 mark, Bob Roessel of OR, Jerry Young of PA
and Steve Caron of MN doing a great job. Go to the website and
check these bruisers out.
www.gpohunts.com. Our 2nd hunt was as equally
successful with George Lorton and Kevin Krueger both of FL taking
great Bucks.
Then it was
back to Douglas for Antelope and Elk rifle hunts. Antelope hunts
were very successful with Brian Anderson of OH, Dave Ambers of ND,
Trip Nelson and Jimmy Bond both of NC, and Randy Scott of TX all
taking nice bucks regardless of what Mother Nature threw at us.
October 15th was a busy day once again with Deer, Elk,
and Antelope hunts all happening. In Casper Todd and Shawn were
hunting Mulies once again, with Bob Smith of MI, Dave Ambers of
ND, and Scott Brookes of CT all harvesting Bucks, this was a tough
hunt with the Antler growth not what it had been in the past.
Back in
Douglas we hunting Elk hard with the weather throwing everything
it had at us Mark Swaim of CA, harvested a nice Bull on public
ground with Chappy and Colbie on the fourth day of his hunt. While
Vern Larson of CA, and John Day of AL took great Bulls on some of
our private ground. Our last Elk hunt of the year was also
successful with Bill Paxon of WV harvesting a great 5x5 scoring
over 340, this was a very impressive animal.
Then it was
back to western Wyoming doing one of our favorite things chasing
Mountain Lions. Along with Smokey Canyon Outfitters owner Ryan
Merritt we are 11 for 16 to date, but we are still after them. The
application deadlines are fast approaching. The Elk deadline is
1/31/2010, Deer and Antelope is 3/15/2010, Turkey 1/31/2010, Moose
and Sheep is 2/28/2010. Give me a call with any questions, and
once again we wish you a prosperous New Year.
Thanks, Dirk
